What does that fishy thing mean?
The fish and the Greek symbols IXOYE are symbols of the early Christian church. The apostles were often called "fishers of men", (Mark 1:17: "follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." ) During a time of severe persecution of Christians by the Romans, the fish was a secret password among followers of Christ. When two strangers met, one would draw the top arc in the sand, and if the second completed it by drawing an arc beneath and intersecting it, they knew they were both followers. Many Christians today recognize the symbol. The Greek symbols are translated: Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior. So, what does it all mean? It means that I identify myself as a Christian. I follow Christ. And why would I do that? Because I met Him. He forgave me, and He changed me. And I want to share Him and His free gift of salvation with you. It's simple, AGREE with God that you are a sinner and unable to save yourself, BELIEVE on the lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, and then CHOOSE to get to know Him by reading the word of God and finding fellowship with a body of believers. This world and all it's troubles will end, it's guaranteed. (Hebrews 9:27: "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment") Here's the deal. When I die and to go my final judgment, I won't have to be judged by what I have done in my life -- by accepting His forgiveness for my transgressions, I get to be judged by what Jesus did for me: He washed me white as snow, so that I will be blameless at that judgment! AWESOME stuff! And I didn't have to do anything to obtain my salvation. I didn't have to go door to door in a suit to earn it. I didn't have to go to church, say certain prayers, or bow to certain statues. I didn't even have to be good. (Although the more I know Him, the more I want to do what's right.) I just had to believe. Email me, I would love to send you more information, or help you get plugged in to a body of believers near you. Bobi email: bobi@prairiefyreboutique.com |
